Entry qualification | Undergraduate / Bachelor diploma (or higher) Entry requirements Applicants must hold a university bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent college degree) in the fields listed below. Full credit acknowledgement is only given for a bachelor’s degree in Slavonic Studies, Specialized in Slovenian Studies. In the case of any other degree, each diploma will be considered individually. The applicant must have 30 credits in the field of Slovenian language, linguistics, literature or culture studies which might be acquired during the MA studies according to the Academic Regulations of the university. Transcripts from your bachelor’s degree as well as course descriptions will be requested. The educational and outcome requirements are defined by the Ministry of Human Capacities, Regulation No. 18/2016. (VIII. 5.). Details of the application and admission process are defined by the Organisational and Operational Regulations of ELTE. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university. Overview
Short description
The aim of the program is to prepare students to become well-trained specialists in Slovenian philology. Students acquire comprehensive knowledge of Slovenian literature from its early period to date in a European context, as well as extensive knowledge of Slovenian grammar and the history of the Slovenian language. Moreover, they get acquainted with the latest linguistic theories, sociolinguistics, textology, lexicology, stylistics and phraseology. Developing both oral and written proficiency in Slovenian is an important component of our education program. The program ends with the thesis on a chosen subfield of Slovenian philology.
The MA program consists of a basic common component (60 credits) and an optional specialization (22 credits).
This program is recommended to applicants who have a special interest in Slovenian language and literature and wish to work in an area that requires Slovenian language skills or is related to Slovenian culture.
This program enables students to work as a specialist of Slovenian philology in the economic, cultural, political or social field. There are many opportunities for young professionals with an excellent command of Slovenian and a good understanding of the Slovenian culture as well as th ehistorical, economic and social trends in contemporary Slovenia.
Strength of program
Students graduating from our university with an MA degree in Slovenian Studies have general knowledge of philology with a specialization in Slovenian literature and linguistics. The structure of our MA program is flexible and meets the needs of students with various interests. The strength of the course is also indicated by the scholarly achievements of the department staff (eg. regular participation in national and international conferences, regularly organized international conferences on Slavistics, numerous books and other national and international publications.)

Students graduating from our university with an MA degree in Slovenian Studies have an opportunity to work for Slovenian or/and Hungarian joint companies, in the field of culture or the educational sector, in the tourist industry, or to find employment related to the cooperation between Slovenia and Hungary in a broader sense. Our graduates can also engage in an academic career and after completing their doctoral training and the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation obtain a PhD degree.
